The New Alexandria Municipal Authority was
created May 3, 1954 by Ordinance No. 54 of the Borough of New Alexandria, and was
incorporated in June 1954.
New Alex Postal Service
Our Postal Service in New Alexandria was
established on November 20, 1804. Nicholas Day was the first Post Master. In 1913,
the Post Office as in the Dornon
Building where Attorney McDonald had his office in 1976. When Jim Cook was the
Postmaster, it was in the Drug Store. Post Office buildings over the years before
1976 were mostly owned by Agnes Bortz and brick building vacated around 1976 was purchased
by a dentist as his office. Around 1976 a trailer between Gay Street and Route 22
was a temporary Post Office. The Post Master was Eleanor M. Johnston who was Post
Master since 1959. She was assisted in 1976 by Millie Hesselman and Mabel Hirko as clerks
and Cora (Dolly) Flowers and Vernon Long as carrier and Mary Lou Sterrett and Sarana Speal
as substitutes.
