Did you make it to the town council
meeting? Here's some of what you missed? The Pet Ordinance was
passed which basically is for the better of the community and use
common sense and you'll be pretty safe...but check with council for
the specifics. It was also discussed about a town wide garbage
company handling everyone's trash. Someone brought in a petition
with many names against a town wide refuse company. A piece of
property was donated to the town fire department and they want it
discussed at the meeting. It was also brought up about the fire
company assisting in Loyalhanna Twp and getting some state funds because
of that. A local business brought up that Gay St. should be made
a two-way street. The borough got a salt and gravel mix for the
winter weather street maintenance. More was discussed and we'll try
and find out more. Please excuse us if we made an error in this
sketchy report.
We heard the St. James Church
Spaghetti Dinner on March 10th tasted superb. Good work everyone! Tax service

getting the fields ready.
If you missed the Derry High School play, you can still
catch "ANYTHING GOES" presented by Saltsburg Middle High School. March 14,
15, and 16. Dinner Theater available on the 16th. Tickets are Adults $5 and
Seniors or Students $4. Shows at 7:30 p.m.
Again, more sad news. The 10:30 p.m. fire alarm on Thursday,
Feb. 21 in New Alex, was dispatched for smoke in the structure at 403 Main St., New
Alex. It's the big blue house that hangs over the sidewalk and currently houses 4
families. It seems the fire was in the wall and went to the attic. Quick
action of one of the resident and the firemen were there and had it knocked down
quickly. Delmont and Latrobe both arrived with their ladder trucks. Forbes Road and
Crabtree also on scene. Everyone in the residence was ok. At least one woman
was scene by a paramedic for anxiety. The fire marshal was called to the scene as
well. Again the firemen were quick-acting, hard-working and did a fine job!
They all deserve our support and more!
A big toothy smile & thanks to Dr. Learn and his staff
for coming to the New Alex library on Monday to help celebrate National Dental Month.
We'll share some photos in about a week.
Sad news for a New Alex family. They awoke on Feb
14th with a fire in their attic as we're told my a neighbor. The town fire alarm
went off around 4am or so. Thankfully the family all got out safely. The family has
family up the street where they went to get warm. NA fireman, Paul "Butchy"
Barbish found their cat and brought him out to safety as well. Many area companies
were there to help. If you have never seen the men in action, it is something
you should see. I was there personally, and it gives you a greater appreciation for
all they do! Not to mention the women from the Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary, where
were preparing coffee and sandwiches for the men. Great job guys..and ladies!
